Why are Siberians called "Hypoallergenic"?

Siberian cats have been found to carry a very low level of Feline d1 protein (Fel-d1). This is a protein that has been identified to be specific to cats and it is suggested that those people who are allergic only to cats are likely sensitive to this protein.
Not all Siberians have the same low level of Fel-d1 and therefore people may react to some Siberian cats and not others. Valeria has tested very low at 1.68 mcg. Under 3 mcg is considered extremely low. Levels of 120 mcg are commonly seen in most breeds. Thus far Valeria has not produced any allergic symptoms in visitors with known severe cat allergies.
